There are several ways to address acne
issues. When you come to Hummingbird, our
knowledgeable medical Estheticians will

Prevention:
Everyone should begin with excellent skin
care. It is important to understand the role
of our hormones, medical history, skincare
products, and medical acne products. The
medical estheticians will provide each
client with education on UV protection, use
of topical vitamin C, the use of live
stabilized cellular creams, and the use of
your prescription regimen.
Advanced Microdermabrasion with glycolic
peels:
These treatments work by causing exfoliation
and improved oxygen delivery into the skin.
Acne bacteria are 'poisoned' by oxygen, thus
our rational for exfoliation and oxygen
treatments. Microdermabrasion is a gentle
process of precision skin polishing. This
treatment uses very refined crystals to buff
off the old dead skin cells to open the
pores. A glycolic acid peeling follows the
microdermabrasion and oxygen is applied to
the skin for dramatic acne reduction. The
oxygen component of this treatment is
coupled with a misted serum of skin
nourishing amino acids and vitamin E.
Blue light IPL (IPL = Intense pulsed light):
These treatments are our most advanced
anti-acne care. In this gentle series of
treatments the blue light strikes the acne
bacteria, activating certain agents in the
bacteria, to cause their ultimate demise.
This treatment effectively and dramatically
reduces the acne. Extra benefits with this
treatment include a reduction in undesired
red spots and brown spots. Occasionally,
improvements in tone, texture and pore size
lines can be observed. A series of 12 is
recommended.
Blue light IPL with Levulan (PDT - photo
dynamic therapy):
This is the most advanced form of IPL
treatments. In this treatment regimen, a
brief microdermabrasion treatment is
performed, followed by the application of
Levulan. Levulan is a light sensitizing
medication. We intentionally use this type
of medication with the lights to enhance the
penetration of the light into the tissue for
the most rapid and dramatic of results. A
series of 3 IPL + Levulan treatments are
recommended. Results are long lasting with
remissions in acne extending up to one year.
